Company Background

LMS was founded in 1982 by Dr. David M. Papurt and David A. Cohen for the development of laser based measurement systems for industry. Over the years LMS has developed systems for several applications including ranging line scan cameras, laser radars, dimensional measurement systems, OEM modules.

Dr.Papurt, Chairman and Vice-President, received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from MIT where he wrote his thesis on propagation of coherent laser radar. He has written several publications on this topic. At MIT Lincoln Laboratory he was consultant to the Optical Radar Systems Group. He was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He has designed signal processors for optical, audio and music applications. He holds a BS in EE and a BA in music and was a piano scholarship student of Frances Renzi.

Mr. Cohen, President of LMS, is an experienced electrical engineer. He has developed many novel systems combining optics and electronics including: frequency stabilized lasers, laser interferometers, radar signal processors, and biophysical instrumentation. He received BS and MS degrees in EE from MIT. At LMS, he works closely with Dr. Papurt on industrial measurement systems. The Model TRD-1 OD measurement system is a result of their collaboration. Mr. Cohen atttended Stuyvesant High School of Science in NYC. He enjoys speedskating, classical music and gourmet cooking.
